Wayne Community College students win Golden LEAF scholarship

Fifteen college-credit students from Wayne Community College were selected to receive spring semester scholarships through the Golden LEAF Scholarship program for the North Carolina Community College System.
Recipients and their programs of study include Heather Aycock, Krystal Braswell, Arminda Chavez, Clifton King Jr. and Briana Marshall, associate in arts; Quay C. Blount, early childhood education; Amber Bruey, medical office administration; Mulasi Kisindja, June Mixon and Mandisa Thompson, associate in general education; Rasheedah Pierce, human services technology; Joshua R. Price, basic skills program; Thurman Shackelford, emergency preparedness technology; George Slocum, accounting; and Kaitlyn Wright, business administration.
Recipients demonstrated financial need and resided in rural counties that are tobacco-dependent and/or economically distressed. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation and childcare expenses related to attending classes.
