MOUNT OLIVE -- Five Mount Olive area residents will help in the form of donations this Saturday to escape from the sandboxes that they will be "trapped."
And those donations will help the Mount Olive Friends of the Parks purchase playground equipment for Nelson Street Park.
Organized by the Friends of the Park Foundation, The Great Sandbox Escape is scheduled for Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Mount Olive Walmart parking lot. It is part of the "2000/20" fundraiser aimed getting 2,000 people to donate $20 each.
The event will feature five local "celebrities" trapped in the "sandbox" until they are able to raise $1,000. They sandbox are Al Southerland of the Men of Faith, Integrity and Character, N.C. Pickle Festival Chairwoman Julie Beck, Lynn Williams of Mt. Olive Pickle Co., Wayne County Commissioner Ed Cromartie, and the Rev. Steven Wicks, pastor of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church.
