Morgan Johnson has enjoyed representing the New Hope Fire Department as its fire princess and being the 2011 Wayne County Fire Princess. But as the end of her year reign is fast approaching and she readies to crown her successor Oct. 13 at the Paramount Theater, the Eastern Wayne senior decided there was something more she would like to do.
She wanted to hold a benefit.
It wasn't required. It wasn't part of her duties as the county's face of fire prevention.
"This is the first time anybody's ever done it," she said. "I wanted to make a fundraiser but I didn't know what I wanted to raise money for. Shari (Stewart, the pageant director) told me about Mr. J.B. (Price) and how he had an accident in January and how he spent some time at the N.C. Burn Center."
Price suffered first- and second-degree burns to his face and neck and third-degree burns to his right hand in an accident in January.
The fundraiser, a pancake breakfast, will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, from 7-10 a.m. at Hwy. 55 on Wayne Memorial Drive. Proceeds will be go to the N.C. Burn Center in Price's honor.
Tickets are on sale for $5 each and can purchased at the New Hope Fire Department or by calling Ms. Johnson at (919) 252-8053 or contacting her by email at [email protected].
The deadline for buying tickets is Oct. 1.
