SNOW HILL -- A traffic accident in Greene County on Monday afternoon claimed the lives of two people, one an 18-month-old toddler, as well as an unborn child.
The accident happened on U.S. 258 north of Snow Hill near its intersection with Newell Road about 2 p.m.
Killed were Erica Jones, 20, a front-seat passenger in a northbound Chevy Trailblazer, which struck a patch of water during a rainstorm and hydro-planed across the center line, hitting a Ford pickup head-on.
Also killed was Kaliegh Cooper, the daughter of the driver, Macie Mooring, 19. The girl was sitting in a child protection seat, according to investigators.
Ms. Mooring, who was nine months pregnant, was listed in stable condition with severe injuries at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, but her unborn child did not survive.
Greene County Highway Patrol First Sgt. J.A. Cameron said the investigation into the accident was still ongoing and that no charges had been filed.
The driver of the pickup was listed as Jerry Carraway.
Suffering non-life-threatening injuries were Jones' two children, 2-week-old Makenna Jones and 16-month-old Kailey Jones.
