Scratch-off swindle
An employee of the Kangaroo convenience store at 2007 Wayne Memorial Drive thought she was doing the right thing Saturday when she received a call from a man pretending to be a service technician with Pre Solutions, a lottery ticket machine company.
The employee was told to activate three Green Dot MoneyPak cards on the store's machine, and read to him the numbers. He said he would fax over a confirmation letter stating that the machines had been reactivated.
The caller was an impostor and the store manager later discovered that the scam netted the con artist $1,499. Goldsboro police are investigating.
