Shot fired into school
A three-inch bullet hole was found in a window of Eastern Wayne High School Wednesday. Within five feet of the penetrated window, a slug was recovered. Wayne County Sheriff's deputies believe the bullet was fired from a 9mm from the direction of either East New Hope Road or Rose Drive. The school has been occupied in recent days by faculty and custodial staff cleaning up from the previous school year.
Stolen shotguns
A single 16-gauge and two 12-gauge shotguns were taken, along with a pair of sunglasses, from a Pikeville residence Wednesday. According to the homeowner, his step-son left the home without securing the door, possibly on purpose, the morning of the theft. The Mossberg, Fox Arms and Savage brand weapons ranged in value from $200 to $300. The scene was unable to be processed by investigators.
