On the state level, Walter Dalton beat the field for the Democratic nomination for governor, while Pat McCrory did the same on the Republican side. Also, the constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage passed by an overwhelming majority.
On the local level, state Rep. Jimmy Dixon beat state rep. Efton Sager in the state House District 4 Republican primary; John Bell IV beat state Rep. Stephen LaRoque in the state House District 10 Republican primary. In the county commission races, Bill Pate and Ray Mayo both won their Republican primaries, while in Goldsboro, Al King and Henry Jinnette were the top vote-getters in the mayoral race and the Rev. Charles Williams and Tondalayo Clark were the top vote-getters in the District 4 race.
In Fremont, Darron Flowers was elected mayor, while Al Lewis, Leon Mooring, W.T. Smith, Harold Cuddington, Joyce Reid and Ann Lewis will round out the council. And in Mount Olive, Ray McDonald was re-elected mayor, with Ray Thompson, Earl Cromartie, Hosea Manley, Gene Lee and George Fulghum rounding out the council.
Also locally, Lonnie Carraway and Erika James were the top two vote-getters in the District 8 Court judge race, while incumbent Lois Mooring won the Democratic primary for Register of Deeds.
