A Dudley woman is in critical condition this morning at Pitt Memorial Hospital after she was involved in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon about a mile north of Mount Olive.
Anne Wells, 59, of Pacific Place, was taken to Greenville after being initially treated at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Wells was traveling east across U.S. 117 on County Club Road when her 2004 Saturn was struck by a 1996 Toyota traveling north on U.S. 117 and driven by Alanna Smith, 28, of Turkey.
The accident happened about 3 p.m.
State Highway Patrol Trooper C.A. Cook cited Ms. Wells' failure to yield as the cause of the accident.
Ms. Smith was believed to have been traveling at about the speed limit and Ms. Wells' vehicle was believed to have been traveling at less than 10 mph when the impact occurred, Cook said.
Cook said that it appeared Ms. Wells was the only person involved in the collision not wearing a seat belt.
In the car driven by Ms. Smith were her 1-year-old daughter and her fiancé, Rashawn McDuffie.
All the passengers in the vehicle were treated and released at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
