Proposed voting maps

Proposed new voting district maps for Wayne County county commissioners and school board will be the topic of a July 12 public hearing at 9:15 a.m. in the commissioners' meeting room on the fourth floor of the county courthouse annex.
Growth in the county's population, as well as population shifts necessitated the redistricting.
The maps were presented to commissioners during a special meeting on June 22. The most obvious changes are in Districts 1, 5 and 6.
Commissioners can approve the maps following the public hearing. However, no change can be implemented until the maps are reviewed and pre-cleared by the U.S. Justice Department.
