Breaking and entering arrest
As a result of an investigation by Wayne County Sheriff's Office, David Earl Poe, 37, of Rougemont and Michael Edward Laswell, 44, of Bahama were charged with attempted breaking and entering and possession of burglary tools. Bond was $25,000.
Deputies were dispatched on June 19 to a possible breaking and entering in progress at MitchCraft Boats on U.S. 70 West. A concerned citizen reportedly saw suspicious activities around the business around 10 p.m. and reported it.
A-Shift deputies detained Poe and Laswell and recovered property at the scene.
Sheriff Carey Winders said, "This is a great example of the assistance that the public can give law enforcement. I want to express my appreciation to the citizen for becoming involved and I also want to thank the deputies on duty for their fast response. The response time often depends on the call volume at the time of a report but fortunately on this occasion it only required minutes for the deputies to respond and secure the situation."
Armed robbery
*Scott Allen Godwin, 22, Pikeville reported to Goldsboro police that he was robbed around 4:15 a.m. Sunday in the 600 block of S. Audubon Avenue. He said a green Ford Explorer pulled in front of his vehicle, blocking his path. Three black males exited, held him at gunpoint and took his wallet, watch and an XM 15 assault rifle, total value $1,670.
*Melvin Tyrone Smith, 39, Herman Street, told Goldsboro police he was walking home along the 100 block of N. Lionel Street when three black males approached him. One reportedly displayed a handgun, demanded his wallet and then took it from his back pocket. Finding no cash, the subject threw the wallet down and the men left into an unknown direction.
Car attacked
*While driving in the vicinity of 2200 Royall Avenue around 12:45 a.m. Monday, Tiara Elise Broadie, 22, of North Drive, told Goldsboro police several subjects walking along the roadway pushed a shopping cart into the path of her car. She said she swerved to miss the cart and struck objects that had apparently been placed in the road by the same subjects, who then threw rocks are her vehicle. An estimated $270 in damages was reported to the car's oil pan and a back tire.
Thefts
*Marie DeLeon of Willard Drive reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office the theft of a $2,500 vehicle parked on Running Deer Circle, Dudley, and a second victim's purse that was inside the car.
*John Arthur Crockett of Perry Farm Lane reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office the theft of a registration tag from a vehicle parked at his residence on Friday evening.
*A breaking and entering was reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on Strickland Road in Seven Springs by Vernon Richard Bartlett of Indian Springs Road. An unknown subject entered a shop and removed $300 worth of tools.
*An unknown subject cut a hole in a fence in the rear of a storage lot at Quality Equipment on U.S. 70 West Friday afternoon, creating $500 worth of damage, and taking $9,430 worth of equipment, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*Eric Lynn Lonas of Pikeville reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office a break-in to an unlocked vehicle on Nahunta Road on Friday. Among items taken were $100 in loose change, a $150 GPS and a $50 pocket knife.
*On the 200 block of Arrington Bridge Road on Saturday, someone forcibly entered a kitchen window of a residence and took $3,200 worth of property, which included two Nintendo game systems, controls and games, as well as a CD player, Ipod, several bottles of alcohol, prescription medication and a bowling ball, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*Philip Casper Jeffers reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office the theft of a trailer, riding lawn mower, trimmer mower, gas can and lock, valued at $2,600 from the 3100 block of Stevens Mill Road on Saturday afternoon.
*A $6,000 electric wheelchair, two wrist watches valued at $1,000 and a $200 wedding band were taken from a Seven Springs residence, according to a report filed Saturday by Kenneth Locklear of Dog Pond Road with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office
*Tammy Jo Richards of Selah Church Road, Four Oaks, reported to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office the theft of a $4,000 club car golf cart from an outbuilding at the residence on Friday.
*A motor vehicle valued at $1,000 was reportedly taken without permission from a parking lot on Royall Avenue early Monday morning. David Lee Swinson, 98, of S. Madison Avenue told Goldsboro police the vehicle was left unsecured, keys over a sun visor.
*According to Goldsboro police, an unknown subject took four chrome center cap rims from a vehicle while parked in a Clingman Street parking lot. Value of the items was $3,000.
Vandalism
*Around 2:24 a.m. Saturday at Skylight Mini Mart on Ash Street, Goldsboro police responded to an alarm and found the back door open, damage to the ceiling and a water pipe had been broken. Representatives from the water department and Progress Energy also responded, turning off the water and power. An estimated $5,000 was done to the building. Several rooms had also been accessed via the ceiling, but nothing was missing.
*Unknown subjects vandalized restrooms at Berkeley Park on Cashwell Drive, according to a report filed Saturday morning with the Goldsboro Police Department. Two sinks, two toilets and two light poles received an estimated $2,200 in damages.
