Walking into Image Worx Photography studio isn't like walking into a traditional studio.
The walls are black and a conference table is propped up on top of steel trashcans in the urban, New York-style studio.
"It's like nothing you've ever seen in Goldsboro," said owner and photographer Chad Smith.
Smith specializes in a wide array of photography, including fashion photography, weddings, senior portraits and children and maternity, though he said his passion is for the unique.
"I'm not a big fan of the old-school photography," he said. "I like the urban feel. When it comes to fashion photography, I focus on style and the visual composition of an image."
The studio also features a Plexiglas area and backdrops area for specialty photos and a changing room to accommodate different outfits.
Smith said he's always been passionate about photography, but he decided about a year and a half ago he wanted to open his own business.
"I was thinking about what is a good business in a time of need," he said. "People are going to want pictures to remember things by."
Image Worx is currently offering 25 percent off senior portraits. Each shoot lasts about two hours and on-location shots are available. Cap and gown only shots run about $75.
Smith also offers a photography class that is from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays and runs for five weeks. The class is open to anyone interested in learning more about photography and covers everything from how to turn on a camera to how to shoot in manual.
"We go on location and go over lighting, studio, indoor and outdoor and editing," he said.
The class runs $100 and owning a camera is not a prerequisite.
Image Worx Photography is located at 317 N. Spence Ave. and can be reached at 223-7050. Visit www.iworx photo.com for more information.
