A Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. bank account was breached late last week and purchases -- to the tune of $2,100 -- were made.
But DGDC executive director Julie Thompson said the bank, and members of her staff, have been on top of the issue since it was first discovered.
"Luckily for us, BB&T red-flagged it," she said.
And while she is not yet sure just how the account information was stolen, she does not suspect a local connection.
"It was likely done by someone over the Internet, someone that stole our information from a past Internet purchase," she said.
The case is currently under investigation by Goldsboro police -- a report dated March 5 states that DGDC administrative assistant Jennifer Sumler alleged that someone made unauthorized purchases off the Internet using the DGDC business account.
