United Church Ministries held its annual Walk for Hunger on Sunday, with more than 150 people representing 13 churches.
Organizers said they hope to better the $18,000 raised last year. Proceeds go to help the organization and those charities it supports, such as the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.
Douglas Johnson Jr. of Jefferson United Methodist Church was the first runner to finish, in 34.5 minutes. Mark Sawyer of Grace Baptist Church was second, in 35.5. The first walkers to finish were the mother and daughter team of Trellie Herring and McKenzie Lee of Hood Swamp Friends, in 57 minutes. Alex King of Madison Avenue Baptist Church finished in 60 minutes.
