The Friends of Scouting are giving generously this year, says Tuscarora Council Executive Harold Keller, and the campaign kickoff has raised 82 percent of this year's $230,000 goal.
Last year's kickoff banquet raised 70 percent, he said.
This year's kickoff, held March 24 at Walnut Creek Country Club, was the first of two major fundraisers for the Friends of Scouting Campaign, Keller said. The second will be the Distinguished Citizen Award banquet, which will be April 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Walnut Creek Country Club. The recipient this year will be Sam Hunter, president and chief executive officer of T.A. Loving Co.
The first fundraiser went extremely well, Keller said.
"We're excited. We have traditional contributors who were unable to attend the dinner and others we could not reach. We will be contacting them," he said.
Also, the Scouts' parents contribute to the Friends of Scouting campaign.
"They started in January," he said. "We go to well-attended parent meetings for each group, and they are going extremely well this year. Within another 60 days, we expect to reach our goal."
