SEVEN SPRINGS -- An appearance by the reigning Miss North Carolina, Amanda Lauren Watson, will highlight the Ole Timey Days Festival in Seven Springs.

The town's ninth annual Ole Timey Days will be held on May 9, and Miss Watson will greet festival visitors from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Mayor Stephen Potter said Miss Watson will assist in the presentation of the annual Gladys Potter Community Service Award and play an active role in the Miss Ole Timey Days Pageant. And throughout the day, she will sign autographs and mingle with visitors.

"I'm very excited to have her join us this year and feel that this will help take our Ole Timey Days Festival to yet a higher level," Potter said. "We grew in size a fairly good amount last year, and I believe that 2009 will another pretty substantial increase."

Potter said nearly every group contacted has committed to returning this year, including the Eastern Carolina Vintage Farm Equipment Club, the Shriner's Mini-rigs and the Stepping Stone's petting zoo.

A living history group will set up near the Seven Springs Museum on East Spring Street with blacksmithing, a candle-making demonstration, sausage stuffing and cooking.

For anyone who want to keep up to date on festival developments, the town has a Web site at www.sevenspringsnc.org.
