Austin Scott Rouse, 2, tastes his first fish stew at the annual Washington's Day Fox Hunt in Albertson on Saturday. The event drew almost 1,000 to the Duplin community, some for the running of the dogs, but many for the chow, including fish stew and barbecue, according to Ruritan president Curtis Simmons.
Seven hogs and 10 cases of chicken were barbecued for the event, not counting the countless gallons of the fish stew that brought stew lovers from neighboring states like Virginia and South Carolina to break bread at the Ruritan Community Building.
The event raises funds for the Ruritan Club, local volunteer fire department and recreation center.
