Icicles drip from a vehicle at Wayne Memorial Hospital early Thursday. Although temperatures were below the freezing mark at dawn, the sun had started to melt the snow and ice by mid-morning.
Despite the nearly 4 inches -- on average -- of snow that fell on Wayne County Tuesday, much of it had melted by Thursday -- even though temperatures Wednesday struggled to break the freezing mark. However, black ice was still a concern in some areas of the county as Wayne County Public Schools called off classes Thursday. Temperatures are expected to reach into the 50s by Friday, though, likely ensuring the disappearance of any remaining snow by the weekend.
