KENANSVILLE -- The Duplin County Board of Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the county administration building in Kenansville to discuss several items, including how to deal with English as a second language.
Commissioner David Fussell of Rose Hill asked that the issue be placed on the budget. He said "We're doing our Hispanic citizens a disservice by not making them learn English."
In other business, commissioners will hear a report on the county's annual audit, Event Center Director John Vogt will ask for money to buy stage lighting and Information Technology Director Tom Reaves will ask permission to reorganize his department.
Also, Utilities Director Donna Brown will ask commissioners to increase water rates. Commissioners have been studying three alternate proposals presented to them on Jan. 5 and are expected to discuss the matter.
Commissioners also are expected to discuss selling the Mental Health Building.
