KINSTON -- Three people died Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer ran through a red light and over a compact car at the intersection of U.S. 70 and N.C. 258.
Barbara Faasii, Geraldine Farron West Kean and James Harvey Mewborn, who were in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Faasii and Mewborn lived in Kinston. Kean, Faasii's sister, was a resident of Greenville.
Kinston Department of Public Safety spokesman Woody Spencer said this morning that no charges have been filed
The accident happened shortly after 9 a.m.
Spencer said the driver of the tractor trailer, Aubrey Ray Weddle, 67, of Floyd, Va., was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital.
Police said they were told by witnesses there was "evidence of a medical problem" with Weddle shortly before the crash happened. Weddle has been admitted to the critical care unit at LMH.
The tractor trailer also struck a utility pole, knocking out power to the traffic signal for a time.
