As Goldsboro officials prepare to debut their new fine arts academy, Herman Park Center has been undergoing a few renovations inside.
Most notable among those has been the paint job -- no longer beige, but rather brightly colored.
But the ArtSmarts program isn't the only reason for the improvements.
The department's administration will soon move into the center from the smaller building between it and the Wayne County Public Library.
The move, department Director Sonya Shaw says, will help to streamline the department by putting all of the administrative employees under one roof.
The move will also save money since the department will be using the small building for storage and won't have to run the air conditioning.
Employees should be moved from the smaller facility to their offices in Herman Park Center by next week, Mrs. Shaw said.
The ArtSmarts program was first scheduled to begin Monday, but program leaders decided to push the start date back to Sept. 2 to give the children time to adjust to a new school year before starting a new after-school program.
