Two persons were injured Sunday afternoon in a wreck involving a Pinewood fire truck and car. The accident occurred about 3 p.m. at the intersection of Hood Swamp Road and Mark Edwards Road.
Pinewood Fire Chief Mel Powers said the truck, a 2001 pumper, had extensive damages and that it appeared the other vehicle had been totaled.
Powers said he could not comment further on the wreck since it was still under investigation Monday morning by the Highway Patrol.
The driver of the car was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital. After returning to the fire station one of the firefighters began complaining about back pain, Powers said.
The truck and four firefighters were traveling east on Hood Swamp Road responding to a mutual aid call with New Hope Fire Department to a barn fire on Hood Swamp Road when the wreck occurred.
"We just hate that it happened and we want to make sure she (driver) was taken care of," he said.
The truck's transmission and radiator were damaged as well as the body of the vehicle, he said. Powers said he was not sure if the wreck had damaged any of the truck's pumping apparatus.
The truck was to be inspected sometime Monday to determine the extent of damages and possible repair costs.
No charges had been filed as of yesterday, he said.
