MOC professor recognized

Lenard Moore, assistant professor of language and literature at Mount Olive College, is one of five individuals and one organization selected to receive the 24th Annual Raleigh Medal of Arts given by the City of Raleigh Arts Commission for lifetime extraordinary achievement in the practice or support of local arts.
A Raleigh resident, he holds a master's degree in English/African American Literature from N.C. A&T University and has written more than 20 forms of poetry, drama, essays and literary criticism.
Earlier this year, he became the first southerner and the first African-American to be named president of the "Haiku Society of America. He is also founder of the Carolina African American Writers' Collective.
An award ceremony will be held in Raleigh on Oct. 7. It is free and open to the public.
