The Wayne County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard is funded, not through tax dollars, but by contributions and the unit's members themselves.
To help raise money to pay for uniforms, equipment and travel expenses, the guard is sponsoring a golf tournament Thursday at Lane Tree Golf Club, starting at 1 p.m.
The event will be a four-man superball tournament with an entry fee of $40 per person or $160 per team.
Two mulligans will be allowed per player, at $5 each. Awards will include first, second and third place, along with closest pin, longest drive and door prizes.
Hole sponsorships are available for $100 and there will be a pig pickin' afterward.
The honor guard has performed in front of two presidents and a vice president, among other dignitaries and has been selected for a place of honor the last eight times at the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Service in Washington, D.C.
If you are interested in playing in the tournament or sponsoring a hole, call Donna Winstead after 6 p.m. at 778-8707.
