A suspicious car parked outside Seymour Johnson Air Force Base's Berkeley Boulevard gate caused a stir late Thursday morning for base and city officials alike.
The incident began when an "abandoned vehicle" was identified in the base visitors center parking lot around 11:30.
4th Fighter Wing Public Affairs officers said they do not take any chances when public safety is an issue, so responders were called.
The area was blocked off and the gate was locked down.
One of the 4th's military working dogs checked the scene for explosive material.
But in the end, no threat was disco vered.
Goldsboro police officers and members of the 4th's Security Forces detail worked together at the scene for just more than an hour, until the "all clear" came shortly before 1 p.m.
Comments from both were unavailable at press time.
