MOUNT OLIVE -- An evening of entertainment and dining is being planned by the Mount Olive College Alumni Association as a fundraiser for student scholarships.
Planned for Saturday evening, Feb. 16, "Winter Glitz -- An Evening in Central Park" will be held in the Lois K. Murphy Regional Center starting at 6 p.m.
The first event of its kind at the college, organizers say they hope to make Winter Glitz a tradition, said Francine Cooke, chairman of the planning committee.
In addition to the dinner, an alumni silent auction and a full lineup of entertainment are being planned. Freddie Pierce, a former MOC Singer and alumnus of the college, will serve as master of ceremonies.
John Clifton will perform a medley of Broadway songs, monologue and visual theatrics, while Tom Casey, a local accountant and musician, will provide dinner music and accompany Clifton.
It will also be a visual evening, with arches of light, banks of snow and winter scenes helping set the mood for the New York skyline, promises Dianne Riley, director of alumni relations for the college.
"Guests will get the feeling that they are Madison Square Garden or even Times Square," she said.
Cost for the evening is $50 per person or $375 for a table of eight. The public is invited, and black tie is optional.
"Bring a friend, bring a business associate, just come and enjoy the evening and help support student scholarships at Mount Olive College," Mrs. Riley said.
