Civil War historian to speak

NEW BERN -- Nationally-recognized Civil War historian Ed Bearss will share his flair for entertaining and educating the public at an upcoming lecture entitled "North Carolina and the First Day of Gettysburg," at 2 p.m. on Jan.13, at the Masonic Theater in New Bern.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from the New Bern Historical Society at 512 Pollock Street, or by calling (252) 638-8558. The theater is located at 516 Hancock Street in downtown New Bern.
A Marine veteran, Bearss retired in 1995 after 40 years with the National Park Service. An accomplished author and compelling military historian, he is also well-known for inspiring listeners on personal tours given for History America and the Smithsonian Institution.
After the presentation, a reception will be held at the Attmore-Oliver House, which can be entered from 512 Pollock Street, three blocks from the theater.
