A Thursday evening fire in the Piney Grove community left a family's home completely destroyed, the fire chief in that community says.
Elroy Fire Chief Steve Mozingo said a 4:30 p.m. fire at 406 St. John's Church Road caused $300,000 in damages to the structure.
No one was at home or injured, the chief said.
Homeowner Adam Weaver and his wife also lost about $60,000 worth of property inside the home, Mozingo said.
Seven volunteer fire departments responded and had the blaze under control in about an hour, Mozingo said.
The home was fully engulfed with flames when firefighters arrived, the chief said.
"Basically, it was just burning from one end to the other on the rear of the house," Mozingo said.
The fire chief said that investigation was not complete, but fire officials and the fire marshal suspect an electrical cause.
"It appears to have been an electrical short," the chief said.
Mozingo said he could not yet say where the electrical short occurred or what electrical components were involved.
