A Bojangle's employee foiled a robbery attempt at the Mar Mac restaurant Sunday night by locking herself away from the suspect, authorities say.
As the restaurant was closing for the night, around 11 p.m., an unidentified black male approached the female Bojangle's employee as she left, Wayne County Sheriff's Capt. Tom Effler said.
No one was reported injured in the incident handled by Deputy C.R. Shaeffer, the captain said.
"The employee was leaving the store, and she was confronted by a black male wanting the money," Effler said. "He forced the employee to go back into the store."
But the woman, whose name was not released, proved to be too cunning for the would-be robber, the sheriff's captain said.
"She was pretty smart about it," Effler said. "She went inside and locked herself inside and called 911."
After the Bojangle's No. 16 employee locked herself away from the suspect, he fled the store, authorities said.
"The suspect got away, and it's still under investigation," Effler said.
The captain said the suspect did not use a weapon, at least not one that the Bojangle's employee saw.
"It doesn't say anything about him having a gun," the captain said.
