The Village of Walnut Creek Council picked a new village clerk at its meeting Wednesday night.
After many interviews with several people, a unanimous vote led to Denise Kagel filling current clerk Sandra Allen's spot.
Ms. Allen gave her letter of resignation to Mayor Ken Ritt in July, and her last day will be Dec. 31.
Until then, the two will work together to help Mrs. Kagel learn the responsibilities of the job.
Ms. Allen served the village for 11 years, and Mrs. Kagel said she hopes she can live up to her position.
"Those are some tough shoes to fill," said Mrs. Kagel.
Also at the meeting, the council decided upon a date for a special meeting -- Nov. 16 at 9 a.m.
The meeting will hold three agenda items and only three -- swearing in councilmembers, appointing a mayor and a mayor pro-tempore and potential revision of mandatory water conservation phase.
A few citizens spoke out about water conservation issues, including whether or not to drop the lake at the beginning of the year like the village normally does.
In other business, the council discussed other items including the change in location of the upcoming duathlon from around the lake to around the Village Town Hall and whether or not to sign a franchise agreement with Progress Energy.
