One U.S. serviceman was killed in four-wheeler accident Saturday at Busco Beach.
The accident marks the second ATV accident since April, and the fifth fatal accident at Busco Beach on Bryan Boulevard in seven years.
The serviceman, who appeared to be in his 20s, was riding an ATV with his friend when he lost control and struck a large tree.
Both were injured when they were tossed from the bike, but the driver's injuries were fatal.
"He died from severe head and neck injuries," Mar Mac Volunteer Fire Chief Bill Harrell said.
Neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Harrell said.
Units of the Mar Mac Fire Rescue, Wayne County Sheriff's Office, State Highway Patrol and Wayne County EMS responded at about 1:30 a.m. and found the driver dead at the scene.
The passenger was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Harrell said.
Both of the men did not live in the area.
Harrell called the incident "terrible." He said he was unsure if alcohol was involved.
State Highway Patrol Trooper J.D. Edwards is in charge of the accident. Names of the victims were unavailable at presstime.
