Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help in locating a convicted sex offender who has violated his probation. Jamie Lafayette Stevens, 42, was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in March. Under the terms of his probation, Stevens is expected to register as a sex offender for 10 years and update his home address with local officials every six months, officials say. However, Stevens whereabouts are unknown. Stevens, a black male, is 5-feet-11 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call Goldsboro-Wayne Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. All callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 if their information leads to a felony arrest.
Drunken driving sweep nets 70
Local law enforcement officers handed out 68 citations in just the first week of the anti-drunken driving campaign, Booze It & Lose It.
Armed with a mobile unit equipped with breathlyzers, and judges from the Wayne County Magistrate's Office, dozens of officers from the N.C. State Highway Patrol, Wayne County Sheriff's Office and the Goldsboro, Mount Olive and Pikeville police departments took to the streets in search of drunken drivers from midnight Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday. The Booze It & Lose It campaign began Aug. 17 and ends Sept. 2. Among the citations issued, one was cited for DWI; six for no seat belt; one for child passenger safety violation; three for drug violations; six for driving on a revoked license; two for no license; and 47 for various other traffic violations.
Investigations
*Cindy Toler Stanley reported someone entered her unlocked Jeep Cherokee while it was parked at 2700 Wayne Memorial Drive on Tuesday and stole a laptop computer, valued at $798.
*Wayne County sheriff's officials arrested a Goldsboro man who allegedly broke into two vehicles in 2000 block of Nahunta Road in July. Christopher Dale Mooring, 20, of Saulston Road, was charged with two counts each of breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen property. Mooring was placed under a $35,000 bond. All of the property has since been recovered.
