Some schools reopen this week

Students in several area schools are expected to return to classes starting this week.
Wayne County Public Schools won't resume until later in the month, on Aug. 27. Two of its newer additions, however, along with private and independent schools, are preparing to open sooner.
The Wayne School of Engineering, the latest addition to the public schools' roster, will start classes on Wednesday. A four-day orientation for the incoming class of ninth graders was held during the week of July 23.
Ribbon cutting ceremonies for the school, housed within Goldsboro High School, will take place Monday afternoon at 3, with open house for parents and students planned for that evening from 6-7:30 p.m.
Principal Gary Hales said that while the school currently has 80 students enrolled, it can accept up to 100.
"Parents still considering enrolling their child are also welcome to attend the open house," he said.
Open house will also be held Monday for Wayne Early/Middle College High School, located on the Wayne Community College campus and following the college's calendar schedule. Planned from 5-7 p.m., a general information session will be held in Moffatt Auditorium followed by an opportunity for parents and students to visit classrooms, meet teachers, pick up bus assignments and collect schedules.
Introduced through the school system last year for 11th and 12th graders, a ninth grade class will be added this year.
Principal Lee Johnson said 130 students are enrolled for the upcoming school year.
Contact numbers for the two schools have also been announced by school officials. The phone number for the School of Engineering is 734-0070 and at Wayne Early/Middle it is 735-5152, ext. 733.
Two private schools have announced they will start classes on Monday, Aug. 13.
Wayne Christian School will have half-day classes that Monday, with a regular schedule to be observed the following day.
Prior to the start, open house for preschool through high school will be held Thursday from 4:30-7 p.m.
Parents of K-4 students will also receive a letter announcing the staggered schedule for the first two days of school.
At St. Mary Catholic School, preschool and kindergarten students will follow a staggered schedule over the first three days, with advance notification already mailed to parents.
By Thursday, Aug. 16, all students at the school will be attending full-time, said Headmaster Lynn Magoon.
The school will open with approximately 225 students, she said, and still has some openings.
Open house dates will be Wednesday for grades 1-4, 6-7:30 p.m.; Thursday at 1 p.m. for preschool and kindergarten; and 6-7:30 p.m. for grades 5-8.
Teachers at Wayne Country Day School return on Aug. 9, with students expected to return for a half-day of classes on Aug. 15. The first full day of classes will be Thursday, Aug. 16.
The school's open house is slated for Monday, Aug. 13. Preschool parents will meet at 5:30 p.m., while those with lower and upper school students will meet at 6:30. A combined welcome session will be held at 7:30 in the gymnasium.
Classes at Faith Christian Academy will resume on Aug. 27, for all ages and grades.
Their open house is planned for Saturday, Aug. 25, at 9:30 a.m.
