Goldsboro retail stores were gearing up today in anticipation of a big weekend spurred by the state's sales tax holiday.
Lawmakers approved the annual three-day holiday to help families shopping for back-to-school items for their children.
The holiday went into effect at 12:01 a.m. today and lasts until 11:59 p.m. Sunday.
Manager Mike Massgengill at Sportsman's World said this morning that he expects business to pick up today although probably not as much as last year, when the tax holiday coincided with the week before school started.
The Wayne County Schools will start classes this year on Aug. 27.
Manager Jeff Diggs at Target said this morning that he and his staff have been preparing for increased customer flow, with specials on many back-to-school items.
Back-to-school items included in the sales tax holiday are clothing, shoes, notebooks, stationary, backpacks, clothing, sports equipment, lunch coolers, computers, printers and calculators.
