S.C. murder
suspect arrested
A South Carolina man who fled his home state to avoid a murder charge is now behind bars, thanks to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Eddie "Kojac" McCoy, 30, of Gaddy's Mill Road, faces charges of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
The charges stem from allegations that he fatally shot Darryl Adams, 41, of Dillon, S.C., in the back with a gun during a dispute on Oct. 2, 2005, said Detective Sgt. Johnnie Myers of the Dillon of the S.C. Police Department.
The wound left Adams in a coma until he died Jan. 7 of this year, Myers said, at a Randolph County care facility.
Dillon police and agents of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division received information that McCoy had fled to Wayne County and was working for a trucking company on U.S. 13 North, Wayne County Sheriff's Capt. Tom Effler said.
Dillon police called the sheriff's office to arrest the suspect.
"We received information that he would be coming in at 8 a.m.," Effler said Thursday. "Deputies from A-shift went to the business and arrested him without further incident."
McCoy is in the Wayne County Jail, awaiting extradition.
