A Goldsboro man is in custody after he allegedly walked into a gas station on Ash Street early this morning, held up the store clerk and tried to get away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
But as the armed robbery suspect identified as Allen "Ray-Ray" Holmes, 47, of East Holly Street, attempted to make his getaway, Goldsboro police stopped him in his tracks.
Police responded to Savemore convenience store in the 1900 block of Ash Street after receiving a call at about 1:38 a.m.
In just 10 minutes, they tracked down Holmes at 615 N. Madison Ave., during a brief foot chase and quickly apprehended him.
Holmes was charged with armed robbery, second-degree kidnapping and resisting arrest.
Holmes was also wanted for a previous armed robbery on July 14 at the Pantry on 1600 block of east Ash Street.
He was served with that outstanding warrant as well, police said. They had been asking for the public's help in finding him -- at least until this morning.
Holmes was placed in the Wayne County Jail on a $270,000 secured bond.
