Spring Creek resident Terry Price assesses the damage overnight thunderstorms caused in his yard. This shed took a hit, he said, but fortunately a Harley-Davidson and brand new lawnmower stored inside escaped the incident unscathed. Less than an inch of rain was reported around the county, with winds up to 60 miles per hour causing slight damage. Two trees and a power pole were reported down in an area west of Mount Olive around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday. Mike Strickler from the National Weather Service said two severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in Wayne County, the second which produced reports of penny-sized hail and winds in excess of 58 mph. Some residents also heard car alarms throughout the night, activated by the vibrations made from the thunder and lightning.
