MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday that President Gena Knode has resigned.
Ms. Knode gave her resignation effective Aug. 10.
When she took the helm at the chamber in February 2006, she had already served many years as the co-chairman of the annual N.C. Pickle Festival, which is sponsored by the chamber.
At the time she came on board, the chamber had been without a president since early December 2005, when the board chose not to renew Kelley Castle's contract. Ms. Castle was president for only six months after replacing longtime president Patti O'Donoghue.
Chamber board chairman Stephanie Kornegay said the board extends warm wishes for her future endeavors.
"Gena Knode ran an efficient chamber office and conducted many successfull events for the chamber. We appreciate her service and wish her success in the future," she said.
The chamber will be advertising for the position soon, she added, and those who think they can fill Ms. Knode's shoes can call the chamber office at 658-3113.
Meanwhile, office administrator Linda Outlaw and the chamber board's executive committee will ensure all chamber functions and member support activities proceed as normal.
