A manhunt is under way for the suspect who allegedly opened fire on a driver and a car full of children during an argument Thursday morning on Johnson and Williamson streets in Mount Olive.
A warrant has been issued for Terry Mondell White, 29, of Oliver Street, Mount Olive, police Capt. Brian Rhodes said.
White faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury for allegedly shooting Garcia Kornegay, 28, of Elmore Street, Mount Olive and injuring Kornegay's 3-year-old son, Caleb.
Garcia Kornegay was behind the wheel of a gray Cadillac when an argument escalated into violence at about 10 a.m.
White allegedly shot Garcia Kornegay in the chest. During the assault, Caleb Kornegay received a cut on his arm possibly from falling glass after a bullet shot out one of the car windows.
Several other children were in the car, but they were taken from the vehicle before police arrived. Their names were unavailable.
White is still on the run, and police are asking for the public's help to find him. White, a convicted drug felon according to Wayne County court records, is believed to be hiding out in the area.
White, a black man, is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. White has the letter "T" tattooed on his right and left forearms, Rhodes said.
White is considered to be "armed and dangerous."
