House fire
A Goldsboro home on Rose Street was destroyed by fire Thursday when the occupant, Christopher Goff, poured fuel into a hot lawnmower gas tank causing it to ignite, according to fire officials. The fire spread to a nearby storage shed, which was attached to the home located at 2009 Rose St. It also spread to the kitchen and attic, Goldsboro fire Chief Alvin Ward said. Goldsboro firefighters responded to the fire that broke out at about 3:35 p.m. Damage to the home owned by Catherine Thomas of Raleigh was estimated at $105,000.
Thefts
*Emma Wooten reported someone stole jewelry, all valued at $720, and a box of insulin syringes from her home in the 1900 block of Elton Drive.
*Employees at the Kmart on Berkeley Boulevard said a black man and woman entered the store and walked out without paying for $50 worth of clothing.
