Fireworks will sparkle this year in Goldsboro.
A patriotic display is scheduled for 9 p.m. Wednesday, and will be shot off from the parking lot at Berkeley Mall in Goldsboro. Mall manager Linda Priestly said the public is welcome to come early to get a good parking space and to shop right up until the display begins.
Fireworks are not all Goldsboro residents can enjoy on the Fourth. The Goldsboro Jaycees are debuting their July 4th parade and festival this Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. right in downtown Goldsboro. In addition to the traditional holiday parade, complete with fire trucks and marchers of all ages, the club will sponsor a festival of fun from 1 to 4 p.m. Music, food and fun are all part of this Independence Day event. A jumpy bounce, rock wall and slide are also planned.
In addition to the Goldsboro events, Mount Olive also will celebrate the Fourth of July.
The Mount Olive Exchange Club will sponsor a children's parade and patriotic celebration beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Westbrook Park.
Prizes will be given to the youngest, the oldest and the person who traveled farthest to attend the celebration.
Food and fun are planned -- all leading up to the fireworks display, which begins at dusk at the Mount Olive Airport.
The fireworks are sponsored by the Mount Olive Jaycees.
