A Goldsboro man will face murder charges for allegedly plunging a knife in a man's back in early February during a dispute over a missing $20 bill.
A Wayne County Grand Jury returned an indictment for first-degree murder earlier this month against Jamal Wilson, 30, of 105 Kendall Lane.
The charges stem from an allegation that Wilson murdered Vincent Wright, 43, of Pony Drive, Pikeville, at the home Wilson shared with his girlfriend, Wright's sister, Andrea Wright.
Wright, a husband and father of three daughters, was a master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was assigned to the 4th Component Maintenance Squadron at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and had more than 20 years of military service.
The incident that led to Wright's death began when he went to his sister's home after he was called about a family dispute. Wilson allegedly assaulted Wright's brother, Dwayne Wright, over an allegation $20 had been stolen.
A confrontation later ensued between Wilson and the murder victim. During the altercation, Wright was stabbed once in the back, piercing him in the heart, sheriff's officials said.
Wayne County sheriff's deputies responded to 105 Kendall Lane at about 11:30 p.m. Feb. 4. Upon arrival, officers found Wright lying unresponsive. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The grand jury also handed up 96 true bills of indictment during its June 4 meeting. Jurors could not act on one case because no witness was present, officials said.
Thirty-eight true bills were returned on various drug charges. Eighteen people were indicted for breaking and entering, and five were indicted for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Four people were indicted for burglary. Four were indicted for assault. Two were indicted for armed robbery, and one person was indicted for second-degree rape.
