Goldsboro rural carrier Kirby Stevens starts his long day of delivering packages along his route that runs from Cherry Hospital toward Grantham. The next couple of days are among the busiest for postal carriers. Officials say this year deliveries are up 10 percent over 2005. Postmaster Sonny Johnson said that both the Main postoffice and the Berkeley station delivered 1,260 packages last year. More than 1,440 packages are headed for Wayne County homes this week.
