Shot by stranger
Tenesha Nicole McLain of South Center Street, Mount Olive, was in stable condition Saturday night at Wayne Memorial Hospital, where she was recovering from gunshot wounds.
Ms. McLain told Goldsboro police investigators she was standing outside Room 231 at the Econo Lodge, 704 Corporate Drive, Goldsboro. She was shot in the right arm. She told police she saw her assailant, somebody she does not know, in a dark-colored car.
Ms. McLain said she has no idea who would want to harm her.
Beaten with table leg
Allen Ray Newkirk of Genoa Lane, Dudley, told sheriff's investigators a woman he knows beat him with a wooden table leg. He did not require medical treatment.
Newkirk said around 4:40 a.m. Saturday the woman hit him several times with the table leg, and when he tried to call 911, she unplugged the telephone. No charges were immediately filed.
Crimes
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating the following crimes:
*Steven Tyrone Hall told investigators Saturday morning that somebody broke into his home on Durham Lake Road and stole his two pit bulldogs. He said the thieves pried open the back door to get to the 13-week-old pups. He described the female as gray and white and the male as brown with white on his face, chest and feet. The two dogs were valued at a total of $1,300. Damage to the door was $30.
*A $4,000 motorcycle was stolen from behind the owner's former home on Old Grantham Road. Ray Lamont Pipkins of Ironwood Road said the owner, Miguel Morales Frett of Goose Creek, S.C., has been in South Carolina since Sept. 28 and had asked him to check on the blue 2004 Yamaha for him. He said the license plate number is NH MIGS.
*Thieves drove off with a service truck and equipment valued at $41,500 from Rainman Irrigation, 429 N.C. 55, Mount Olive. The theft occurred some time after Thursday and was reported Friday. A company employee said the keys may have been inside the white 1996 Dodge truck. The truck had connected to it a trailer with an excavator, tools and a generator on it. The truck was sitting beside the business. There was no fence around it.
*Tommy's Food Mart, 3426 Wayne Memorial Drive, reported Friday that somebody used a counterfeit travelers check to buy $500 worth of gas and food.
*Tamatha Gurley Belom of N.C. 111 N., Pikeville, said somebody stole her ATM card, truck keys, house keys, jewelry and cosmetics, all valued at $735. Ms. Belom said the thief also made several transactions on her account for a total of $228.
The Goldsboro Police Department is investigating the following crimes:
*Fastenal at 2805 Royall Ave. reported two cordless drills stolen Friday. An employee at Fastenal told investigators the drills, valued at a total of $630, were present when an inventory was taken on Oct. 25, and he discovered them gone Friday when he went to sell them.
*Advance Auto Parts at 305 N. Berkeley Blvd. reported that somebody used a counterfeit $20 to pay for merchandise sometime Thurs-day.
