Twenty-six members of the Mount Olive College Alumni Board and their spouses recently convened for one of their tri-annual meetings. Coming from all across the country, they gather for a few days each winter, summer, and fall to discuss and support their alma mater.
"Our alumni president flies in from Arizona and two board members come down from Richmond," said Dianne Riley, director of alumni relations. "Most people travel from all over North Carolina, and there have been occasions when a board member flies in from Texas and another from China. They are a dedicated group."
The alumni board meetings focus on committee workshops, planning for the coming year, electing officers and announcing alumni awards. During the recent meeting, members voted to continue supporting the Communications Complex at MOC. The group also toured the complex.
"I am so pleased that they voted to continue the communications project for four more years with the goal to name the College Archives Room." Riley said.
Riley went on to talk about the board's involvement committee, which she said has been planning a great event with something for everyone, "golf, art exhibits, music, food, basketball, fun games for alumni children, reunions and much more."
Since reorganizing in January of 1997, the Alumni Board has made great strides involving alumni revisiting their alma mater, she said. They will host their 10th Alumni Weekend this fall and can be proud of the fact that alumni donations to the college have nearly quadrupled.
"The Alumni Board is a hard working group, who care about Mount Olive College and are making a difference for our students and our alumni," Riley said.
Alumni weekend at Mount Olive College is scheduled for November 17-19. The theme this year is "Doing Even More than Before."
