Man assaulted
A woman was charged by Goldsboro police Wednesday with domestic abuse after she reportedly cut a man on his arms, according to an investigator's report.
The victim, Michael Chiyo Butler, 24, of Dudley, was taken by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he received 26 stitches and was released, officials said.
Butler said the woman approached him at about 11:15 a.m. in the 900 block of Fairview Circle and asked why he would not talk to her, the report said. Butler tried to walk away, but the woman grabbed him, cut him and then fled, the report said.
Later police later arrested and charged Minisha Sharbelle Chestnut, 26, of North Carolina Street with assault with a deadly weapon and communicating threats. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail without bond.
Apartment fire
A 5-year-old child playing with a cigarette lighter on Tuesday set bedding on fire at an apartment at 915-A Fairview Circle, according to a Goldsboro Fire Department report.
No one was injured at Janet Hutchins' apartment, but damages totaled an estimated $37,000, Assistant Fire Chief Jerry Langston said.
Sixteen firefighters answered the 3 p.m. alarm with three engines, a ladder and a command car. They needed almost two hours to put out the fire, investigate the cause, ventilate the home and finish salvage work.
Damage was estimated at $30,00 to the apartment that was valued at $50,000. The entire four-unit Goldsboro Housing Authority complex was valued at $200,000. The contents were valued at $7,000, and $5,000 was reported damaged.
Drug charges
A 28-year-old man from Elizabeth City was arrested Wednesday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with two felony drug offenses after a search of a home in the 200 block of North Carolina Street.
Messiah Kevaughn Jackson was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
Marijuana with an estimated street value of $2,041 was seized during the investigation.
11 hurt in wrecks
Eleven people were injured and damages were estimated at $76,300 in nine recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Three people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 4:15 p.m. Sunday on Durham Lake Road near South Landfill Road, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver, Rosa Nelly Sanchez, 39, and her passengers, Rosa Maria Valles, 12, and Aurora Valles, 2, all of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. Marlow Eugene Holmes, 31, of East Holly Street was charged with improper passing. Damages were set at $3,700.
*A northbound driver was injured and damages were estimated at $7,300 in a two-vehicle collision at 4:12 p.m. Monday at Miller's Chapel and Thoroughfare roads, the Highway Patrol said. Elvia Gonzolez, 83, of Arrington Bridge Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. A southbound motorist, Sean Taylor Price of Oakdale Road, LaGrange, was charged with a yield violation.
*A driver was injured and damages were put at $23,500 in a one-vehicle wreck at 5:45 p.m. Monday on N.C. 581 near Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jessica S. Westbrook, 24, of Nahunta Road, Pikeville, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the vehicle had run off the right side, skidded sideways across the road, went down a bank off the left side and hit a power pole.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-car crash at 5:33 p.m. Monday at Woodland Church Road and Love Memorial Drive, the Highway Patrol said. A northbound driver making a left turn, Virginia J. Simmons, 86, of Summit Drive, was charged with a yield violation. The oncoming driver was Charlene Annite Holmes, 40, of Durham Lake Drive, Dudley.
*A westbound Mount Olive driver making a left turn was injured and damages were set at $6,000 in a two-car crash at 7:07 p.m. Sunday at N.C. 55 and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Teha Croswell, 26, of Cleveland Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. A second westbound motorist, Sabrina Michelle Mitchell, 18, of Winnsboro, S.C., was charged with driving left of center.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a two-vehicle, rear-end collision at 2:56 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 581 near U.S. 70, the Highway Patrol said. Erlinda T. Crawford, 55, of Kelliwood Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other southbound motorist was Sabrina W. Kelly, 38, of N.C. 581 South.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-car crash at 4:37 p.m. Saturday at U.S. 117 and Arrington Bridge Road, or N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, Kenneth Arnold Lane, 74, of Sheridan Forest Road, was charged with a stoplight violation. The other driver, Geraldine D. Coats, 69, of Brentwood Drive, was going north.
*Two people were injured and damages were set at $5,300 in a three-vehicle, rear-end collision at 3:29 a.m. June 28 on N.C. 111 near Price Road, the Highway Patrol said. One southbound driver, Nita Diane Thompson, 25, and her passenger, Larry Keith Lane, 31, both of Kelvin Lane, were released after emergency-room treatment. A second driver, Sheila T. Coor, 46, of Crossbow Drive, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The other driver was Delora Kaye Lane, 33, of Grand Street, Pikeville.
*Both drivers were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 10:35 p.m. June 26 on U.S. 117 Alternate near Sleepy Creek Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jose Velasquez, 30, of Old Mount Olive Road, Dudley, and Glenn Casteen Hand, 40, of Wintergreen Lane, Mount Olive, were released after emergency-room treatment. Velasquez was charged with suspicion of driving while impaired and no operator's license. Damages were put at $8,500.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $1,670 worth of entertainment equipment and a cell phone were stolen between Sunday and Wednesday from a home in the 1300 block of North Carolina Street, Goldsboro police said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, Brandon W. Hill, reported the theft of video-game equipment, a compact disc player, a DVD player, about 150 DVDs and CDs and a television. Damage was estimated at $200. The phone was valued at $75. Clothes and a blanket, valued at $70, were stolen but recovered, the report said.
*A red homemade utility trailer was stolen between Friday and Wednesday from Grantham Supply Co. at 3062 Old Grantham Road, sheriff's deputies said. The trailer was valued at $1,000.
*A marble bench was stolen between Friday and Wednesday from the Patetown Family Cemetery on Church of God Road, deputies said. The bench was valued at $200.
Missing
Two 15-year-old Goldsboro youths have been reported missing by relatives to Goldsboro police.
*Diavston Cornell Hasell of 1659 Tommy's Road was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 140 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When he was seen last at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, he was wearing a white T-shirt, blue-jean shorts and black shoes.
*Kelvin L. Lance Jr. of 1100 N. Jefferson Ave. was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 170 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a medium complexion. When he was seen last at 12:15 a.m. today, he was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and black boots.
Anyone with information on the location of either youth was asked to call police at 705-6572.
Clarification
The addresses of two people listed in Monday's Public Records were wrong. Joseph Wilson Delgado, 31, and Gabriela M. Calderon, 25, live on South Slocumb Street, not Barnwell Road, Dudley.
