A 20-year-old man was shot in the head Saturday in the Foxfire subdivision near Dudley, and another man was arrested quickly by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with the offense.

Darrell Antonio Darden, of Genoa Road, Dudley, was rushed to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in critical condition in intensive care, sheriff's officials said.

Danny Maurice Taylor, 18, of Trailwood Drive, Dudley, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill while inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond. His first court appearance to determine his legal representation was scheduled for Tuesday.

The shooting came at about 3:52 p.m. after the two men had argued at Taylor's home, sheriff's detectives said. The argument escalated to the point that Taylor retrieved a .22 caliber rifle and allegedly shot Darden, detectives said.

"The actions taken by the initial responding patrol officer were a direct factor in the quick resolution of the crime," Capt. George Raecher said.

Deputy Charles Schaeffer responded to a 911 call to Taylor's home and found Darden in the road with a gunshot wound. A witness identified Taylor as the assailant, Schaeffer said.

Detective Sgts. Mike Reid and Robert Chunn were assigned to the case. Patrol Sgt. Kenneth Lupton, Cpl. Craig Edwins, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour and Detective Richard Winders assisted at the scene.
