Educators and staff retiring from Wayne County Public Schools were recently honored during an appreciation reception held at the Goldsboro Country Club.
Assistant superintendent Marvin McCoy presided over the event for the retirees and their families. Board of Education Chairman John Grantham acknowledged the 73 retirees for their service, which represented a collective 1,645 years in the school system.
No matter what job they had held, Superintendent Dr. Steven Taylor said each of those who served in the school system enriched the lives of thousands.
"When I think about retirees, regardless of position, every single position is important and has value," he said. "All of your positions directly contribute to the success of our children."
