FAISON -- The bodies of a husband and wife were found Thursday in their home near Faison by a neighbor.
Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace would not comment today on the deaths of Leamon Loftin, 74, and Alma Lucille Loftin, 68, of 211 Caswell Moore Lane, except to say that he is awaiting the results of a medical examiner's report.
The bodies were found about noon by a neighbor who had gone to check on the couple, Wallace said. Duplin law enforcement officers and emergency service personnel responded to the call.
Family and friends had become concerned because they were unable to reach the Loftins by telephone.
The Loftins were retired teachers. They had been living in the small, yellow frame house on an unpaved road about four miles south of Faison for several years.
This morning, the scene was quiet, with no law enforcement officers or yellow crime scene tape in sight.
