A portion of Elm Street will be closed Monday as an exercise meant to build relationships between Seymour Johnson Air Force Base personnel and local law enforcement will be conducted.
The exercise, known as Orbit Comet, will involve local, regional, state and federal response and is designed to test Seymour, Goldsboro and Wayne first responders in a variety of terrorism and force protection threats.
Multiple units from the base, Goldsboro Police Department, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Wayne County Emergency Services and Wayne and Pitt Memorial hospitals will participate.
Base officials said local residents should be aware of the exercise and can expect to see an unusual concentration of emergency vehicles and personnel on Elm Street near the base Monday morning.
The exercise will be held in conjunction with scenarios at Fort Bragg.
