2 charged with
drug trafficking
Two Goldsboro men were arrested Thursday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with four felony drug offenses, including two trafficking violations, after an investigation and search of a home in the 200 block of Workman Street.
The resident, Demond O'Neil Pigford, 25, and Omar Deon Vann, 21, of Vanderbilt Circle were charged with trafficking in cocaine by possession, conspiracy to traffic in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana.
Each man was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
Officers seized cocaine with a potential street value of $10,400 and marijuana with a value of about $750.
Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers assisted in the investigation.
Mobile home fire
FREMONT -- Unattended cooking was blamed Wednesday for a kitchen fire in a rental mobile home at 179 Peacock St., fire officials said Thursday. The fire melted a pot on the stove, but it was put out before it could reach the cabinets, Fremont Assistant Fire Chief Danny Tillman said. Smoke damaged the entire home. Damage was estimated at $1,000. The unidentified residents, a woman and her children, got outside unharmed, Tillman said. Fremont and Eureka volunteers answered the 4:15 p.m. call.
4 hurt in wrecks
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $6,800 Thursday in three traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 1:40 p.m. Thursday at West Ash and North George streets, police said. Donald Ray Saunders, 48, and his passenger, Renee Saunders, 45, both of Angie Drive, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. No charges were filed. Damages were set at $2,500.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:25 a.m. Wednesday at North George and West Mulberry streets, police said. Beatrice P. Parker, 62, of Woodside Circle was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign. Damages were put at $2,500.
*A motorcyclist was injured in a wreck with a car at 3 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 70 West and Florida Street, police said. Clayton Russell Lambert, 62, of South Quail Run Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with a safe-movement violation at a stop sign, expired inspection and expired registration. Damages were estimated at $1,800.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*About $2,000 worth of property was stolen from a home in the 200 block of Zion Church Road, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported. The thief removed a door glass to get inside, the report said. S.L. Head, said a space heater, a television, 25 compact discs, 30 cassette tapes, a push lawn mower, a vacuum cleaner, a camcorder, a microwave oven, a small stereo, a weed trimmer and tools were stolen.
*A cash register with $6 was stolen between Wednesday and Thursday from a fruit and vegetable stand at 1003 N. Berkeley Blvd., Goldsboro police said. The register, owned by Cox Farms of Dobbersville Road, was valued at $90. The thief had damaged a fence gate and a desk lock in order to get the register. Damage was set at $175.
Missing
A 17-year-old Goldsboro boy was reported missing Thursday night by relatives to police. Darius Brown of 1706 Rose St. was described as black, 5-feet-7 and 170 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. When he was seen last at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, he was wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call police at 705-6572.
